Political changes in the United States never go unnoticed, and much less when they are led by figures like Donald Trump. As part of his return to the public scene, his administration – real or in campaign – has promoted proposals that are already generating a direct impact on the immigrant and business community.
From new restrictions on naturalization, to a controversial green card called the Trump Card, to measures that could tighten the criteria for investor visas, in this article we explain what is changing, how it may affect you, and what you can do to stay ahead.
The “Alligators Alligators”
Symbol of a more aggressive immigration policy
The first headline to go around the world is the creation of a new mass detention center in the Everglades, Florida, dubbed the “Alligators of the Alligators.” This facility – located in a dangerous swampy area, surrounded by snakes, crocodiles and alligators – is already operational and has the capacity to house more than 3,000 detainees, with plans to expand to 5,000.
Beyond the symbolic impact of the place, what is worrying is the message of hardening migration. This initiative suggests a possible increase in raids, prolonged detentions and greater obstacles for those who do not have a regular immigration status.
What does this mean for you? If you are in the U.S. with temporary status, in the process of immigration adjustment, or simply considering migration, it is essential to prepare legally and keep your documents up to date.
Trump Card
A new door to the residence… Only for billionaires
The “Trump Card” is, without a doubt, one of the most controversial proposals so far. It is a permanent resident card that, as announced, would be available to those who invest 5 million dollars in the United States.
There is already an official website, trumpcard.gov, where interested parties can leave their data to receive news. Although the program is not yet regulated or in effect, there are already rumors that it could compete directly with the EB-5 program, which also grants residency by investment, but with more affordable amounts.
How is it different from the EB-5 or E-2 visa?
- EB-5: investment from USD 800,000, long process but grants residency.
- E-2: investment from USD 150,000 (depending on the project), does not grant residency but allows you to operate a business and live in the U.S.
- Trump Card: still in development, but aims for direct residency in exchange for USD 5 million.
At Interlink we believe that both options can coexist, but this type of initiative consolidates an increasingly elitist immigration system. E-2 remains the most realistic and effective alternative for most Latino investors.

“One Big Beautiful Bill”
Tax benefits… with hidden risks
Trump also introduced an ambitious legislative package called the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” already approved by the Senate and awaiting a vote in the House of Representatives.
This proposal seeks to revitalize the economy through incentives for companies, entrepreneurs and contractors, but its fine print brings challenges:
Positives:
- Tips would be exempt from taxes, which benefits workers in sectors such as gastronomy and hospitality.
- A corporate tax cut is expected for small businesses.
- Contracts with the government in sectors such as defense would have tax incentives.
Risks and consequences:
- Significant increase in the US fiscal deficit.
- Potential reduction in social benefits and public services.
- It could limit future immigration policies or aid to foreign entrepreneurs.
In addition, this package was the trigger for a conflict between Trump and Elon Musk, who initially supported it. This media fight illustrates that the content of the law is generating divisions even within the business world.
Why does it matter for investors? These laws directly affect the U.S. tax system, incentives for new businesses, and the overall economic climate. If you plan to migrate through a franchise or startup, you need to understand this new legal framework well.
Citizens in the crosshairs: the process will be stricter
One of the most serious warnings is the new rigor that will be applied in citizenship procedures. If you currently have permanent residency, we recommend that you start your citizenship application as soon as possible.
Among the planned changes:
- Greater demand in interviews and forms such as N-400 and N-600
- More thorough review of background and ties to the U.S.
- Possible Changes to the Criteria for Exemptions from the Citizenship Test
Did you know that many people can take the exam in Spanish? Depending on your age and time as a resident, there are exceptions that make the process easier. At Interlink we help you verify if you qualify.
The path to citizenship not only provides migratory stability, but also legal advantages, access to benefits and the possibility of bringing family members. Don’t let the changes take you by surprise. Contact us.
E-2 visa: approvals continue, but with more requirements
Despite the changing climate, Interlink FBC maintains a 100% approval rate in E-2 visa cases in the last month, with concrete examples.
However, the government is being more rigorous in evaluating these types of applications. Cases related to real estate (such as flipping, construction or property management) are being especially observed and rejected, even with investments of more than one million dollars.
What do we recommend?
- Make sure the business is operational, real, and scalable.
- Avoid passive investment models.
- Choose franchises or structured businesses with proven viability.
